Hey, friend-

I'm "hard on stuff."

That's how my husband describes me to salespeople.

"Do we want the protection plan? Absolutely. She's hard on stuff."

I'm also hard on myself. (And not just psychologically.)

Like, I routinely ricochet off door frames and slam into my kitchen island. My legs contain constellations of bruises in various stages of healing.

So, really, the Brownie Attainment Incident was entirely on-brand for me.

Since I don't know how queasy you are, here's the abridged story:

  • Brownies.
  • Flimsy cooling rack.
  • Steak knife.
  • Stab wound.
  • F-bomb.
  • Dish towel.
  • Panicked call to husband.
  • ER visit.

This whole mess might've been avoided had I:

  1. Used the proper tools for the job, including non-stick cooking spray and a plastic knife—the superior cutting implement for still-warm brownies.
  2. Slowed the heck down.

And lemme tell ya, slowing down could help prevent a lot more than just Brownie Attainment Incidents.

Nearly everyone I know is in a big hurry, and I can't help but wonder if we even remember what we're rushing toward anymore.

So just for today, give yourself permission to...

Pep Talk #: Pump the brakes.

If you feel frantic because your to-do list or your calendar is bossing you around, just stop... take a couple of deep belly breaths... and do a gut-check.

Is all the stuff on your to-do list and calendar even on purpose? Or did some things land there because "they" told you to add it? What can you let go? What can you hand off?

Don't rush to, "It's all non-negotiable and no one else can handle it."
Pump the brakes and reallllllly think about it.

OK, that was more of a lecture, so here's the pep talk: You can trust yourself to design the life you want. You're not behind. You don't have to rush. You may not get the pay-off quite as fast as you want. But you'll probably avoid the ER.

Brownie edges are the best,
Kell

P.S. The Brownie Attainment Incident was 12 years ago this week. I'm fine now, and you have to know the scar's there to see it.
